What Is Hypnosis?
There have been many contradictions regarding hypnosis with many people not understanding exactly what it is. Hypnosis can be an altered state of mind that makes a person have a sense of deep sense of relaxation since their attention is narrowed down according to the suggestions made by a therapist.
It has been used by people to make positive changes within themselves and has been long used to break addictions. There are still many people who do not believe that hypnosis actually exists. Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis is not whereby someone lese controls your mind but you are in control of your mind and your pattern of thoughts. That is why they normally say that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. During a session a therapist will guide you on what to do to be in control of your thoughts and normally you are not made to do anything else.
Hypnosis has been used to treat many things mostly behavior patterns and addictions since it works to reprogram the mind and thus reprogramming behavior patterns hence giving one the power to overcome irrational behaviors and addictions. The body and the mind is taken from a conscious state which takes you to a trance giving you some form of relaxation since breathing becomes much slower and deeper and also the metabolic rate falls.
Hypnosis is based on the fact that most of the time our behavior patterns are controlled by the subconscious mind and thus the only way to change our behavior patterns and addictions is by altering the subconscious mind.
There are different ways in which hypnosis works; it can either be hypnotherapy or psychotherapy. Hypnotherapy is whereby a therapist makes suggestions to a patient who takes the patient to a hypnotic state that helps them to respond to suggestions and make changes breaking their addiction. Psychotherapy on the other hand is whereby one goes into a relaxed state in order to be able to find the root of a certain disorder or symptom that may be hidden in the subconscious.
Benefits of hypnosis
There are many things that hypnosis has been used to treat. That includes: depression, stress, sleep disorders, addictions, post trauma anxiety, grief and loss, and phobia, fear and anxiety. Hypnosis has also been used to control pain especially for those that have lifestyle diseases. Most of the time, it has been used for breaking addictions and has been successful. It has also been used for people with eating disorders successfully.
It is however important to note that hypnosis will not work for everyone since people are different and their response to different situations is different. Hypnosis is also not recommended for those that have psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations. In cases where it is used for pain control it needs a doctor’s evaluation prior. In some cases for hypnosis to be effective it should be used in addition to other therapies. While you are going for hypnosis, the kind of therapist you get and your coordination with the therapist will affect the success rate of the therapy. Visit the NYC Hypnosis Center for more.
